Meeting Muslims in America

8 07 2007

What’s up with the Muslims in the West? Why don’t they get involved in their communites? Are Muslims really productive members in our Western society? Do all Muslims really hate the West? As my mother used to say: “If I had a nickel for every time I have been asked one of these questions, I would be a rich woman!”

Statistically, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the West (PBS). Yet, it is also the most misunderstood religion in the west. Many people think that Muslims can not be productive in a western world. That we are just destined to keep to ourselves locked tight in our own little bubbles. This is wrong. Muslims are productive. Could we do more? YESSSSSS!

Now, My purpose for posting this video is this:

To give all the non Muslims an idea of a typical Muslim in his society. To mispell some of the common myths related to Muslims (ie. we’re all foreign, don’t fit in, don’t give back, hate the US and the West, etc).

To give all the Muslims who watch this the incentive to go out and make a difference in your community!

Comments? If they do not contain any slurs or demean anyone’s way of life, religion then feel free to post them. In fact they are welcomed.

In case your connection will not allow you to see the video, here is a summary:

The video is about a man raised Christian. He lives a life on the streets as a Christian and finally ends up in prision. While in prison, he meets a Muslim and is so inspired and impressed by this Muslim that he begins studying Islam. Soon after, he converts to Islam. He feels like a new person. He works to implement Islam into his life which erases all his previous bad characteristics.

After he is released from prision, he opens up a community center (FOR MUSLIMS AND NON MUSLIMS) including a free health clinic, computer lab, classes, and job training. He also works with operation cease fire (to promote an end to violence). In addition to this, he also does gang interventions. He will sit rival gangs in a room together and have them discuss their issues.

Islam changed his life completely. Alhamdullilah, (All praise and thanks is due to Allah).

My computer is soooo slow~and I was very interested in seeing this! I love culture and learning how everyone does things and why, and I would love to come by and visit your blog again! I think we women of all faiths can be of encouragement to one another, because after all, we have the same goals in mind. Living by faith, honoring our husbands, raising and teaching our children, and nurturing a happy home. After all, we all need to accomplish the same things, don’t we? (Keeping home and getting dinner on the table, etc.) (((((HGS))))) sandi

asalam alaykum , yes muslim do need to get out their and stop being so arrogrant , their non muslim were better then them we have the truth . people who have truth do not behave like that rather they want to share it ….muslim sadly these days lack good dawah and when a revert comes into islam they practicaly attack them haram this haram that ..its all about the outside which is good and bad because islam is about iman and good charactor first then the rest natrauly follows .
Muslim dont realise how much they can give a good impresson just by smiling to non muslims , inviting your neighbours in for tea ..having small talk and actualy apearing ‘normal’ is good the media portrays us as freaks . so we need to show the opposite .

Mashallah!!!! He really is using his abilities as a Muslim and using his resources and the tools to change the misconceptions people have. We definitely are in need of people like him in our society. Sometimes I think that we are just too consumed with our own lives and troubles. We need to become for involved in advocating the true beliefs of our deen. May Allah bless him. Amin This is a great story Alhamdulilah. Hugs๐Ÿ˜‰

Brendan Burnett

My name is Brendan Burnett. I am a Christian from Australia.

First, what is a true Christian? This is strange story because it is saying that a ‘Christian’ man was inspired by Islam above his own beleifs.

This is fair enough that any normal man can be inspired by Islam, but in my faith and knowledge in the Truth of the Word of God spoken through Jesus Christ, I do not beleive that any man with true faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice would ever turn away from Him and the faith of Christianity.

So to sum up, if someone claims to be a Christian, but then changes faiths, he was never a Christian at all.

True faith in Jesus is something that is priceless that any true Christian would never let go of. This man was not a true follower of Jesus Son of God.
