Windows Vista vs. XP, Firefox vs. IE7 HELP!!!

17 07 2007

Ok, a question for the computer savvy. What is supposed to make Vista better than XP? Which is better Firefox or Internet Explorer 7? What should I know, pros cons?

I just bought a new computer with Vista and I really don’t see what’s that much better other than appearance?

my brother is a bit of a computer savvy so all of out computers have firefox, and i’ve never really understood why until recently i had to switch to explorer (for the online marking) and now i know why. firefox is much faster and has less problems.

i have no idea about vista, i’ll ask for you if noone else can get back to you xx

I’m not ocmputer savvy per se, but each has a unique feature that caters to a unique group of poeple. I think each looks for a flaw in the other and tries to improve on it.

For instance my friend, who is somewhat of a geek by the way, and proudly so too, thinks Firefox beats IE in terms of firewalls and such things. He got me to try it. I used it for a while. I noticed pages loaded faster than IE. But when you talk of graphic display and compatibility, IE Is much better. Back then I couldn’t see all the gatdgets I loaded unto my blog using Firefox.

My suggestion, try both till you find the one you’re most comfortable with, πŸ™‚

Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I’m not really an IT savvy, but according to my coleague who is very knowledgeable with IT, there’s not much difference with Vista. Instead she prefer Windows XP rather than Vista. According to her, Vista is still not stable, there’s still a lot of things that need to be improve (what to improve, beats me!…hehehe)

ok sis, that’s just my one cents on this topic.

Have fun with your new PC πŸ™‚

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I have read the same thing Vista will take awhile to work the kinks out because it’s new. Though, I really don’t think I have much choice but to use it seeing as all new computers come with Vista now. hehe πŸ˜‰ I really preffered the XP too because I could join my online classes. Now, the software isn’t compatible with XP. Alhamdullilah though!!!

Right now, I have both IE7 and Firefox. Firefox seems easier to use with feeds.

Salam and Peace
I prefer XP, for still too many programs have problem with Vista and some of them dont have vista version. About firefix and IE, i use both in my computer. Sometimes Firefox, sometimes IE. Firefox is better for sites image included, but IE is better for sites text or flash included. (just my experience)
Take care

I bought a MACBOOK. When Vista came out, I decided I would never buy another Windows based PC again. That being said, you might want to try out firefox, it is a better browser overall.

Assalamu alaikum,
I just got a MacBook too! No more Windows nightmares for me. I think Vista was the best thing Microsoft could have done for Apple. πŸ™‚ And I love Firefox. You can add extensions to it and customize it. You can add skins. And don’t forget Zotero! (I’m a big fan, check out my posts on the subject.) You can’t do any of that with IE.

IE can view colored scrollbars and other interesting tricks with HTML and CSS and such. Firefox won’t.

Not sure if you’ll care much about that, but still. ^^;
